This is pretty amazing. I've read about these guys before, but the video does make the story even more powerful and real--a good example, I think, of what we are talking about.

And as a side note, man does this make me feel lazy. My cousins just did the Iron Man in Idaho a few months ago, making me feel disgusted that I was too tired/ busy or whatever to keep up my measly two-mile a day running routine. This is 100 times worse as far as the guilt factor, but very inspiring.

The video and the music bring this story to life. I read about these guys in Sports Illustrated, I think, but the YouTube video wraps the story with emotion. It would be interesting to talk about what other music might enhance the telling of this dynamic duo's story. Thanks for finding it, Dave, and posting it.

I'm with Christa--my measely morning runs pale by comparison!

I am going to use this with my 8th graders for commentary writing next week - an example anyway.

I agree with you Christa - the story was amazing, but when finished with the video - the song choice and picture/video selections pulled an emotional punch - I was crying - could be my father/son thing with my own kid, but the textured nature with word and music and video brought it altogether.

I would like to explore doing this kind of thing more with students.

I want to use it, too, Dave. I think kids will have a lot to say about why it all works together. I have a print article about these guys that I want them to see, too. The emotion will be so apparent in the video version.
